An AI consultant in India who builds it, then stays

Small Change, Big Difference.

Most businesses looking for an AI consultant in India get a slide deck, a workshop, and an invoice. You get something else: someone who maps the tools you already run, connects them, puts AI where it actually saves money, and then stays to keep it running as your business changes.

30 minutes. No pitch. An honest answer on whether AI fits your business yet.

Why most AI projects in India stall

The problem is almost never the model. It is the plumbing underneath it. A typical Indian SME runs billing in Tally or a GST-filing tool, customers in a spreadsheet or a half-used CRM, orders over WhatsApp, and attendance in a fourth system nobody owns. Drop an AI layer on top of that and it has nothing clean to read.

So the pilot demos beautifully, then quietly dies. The team goes back to copy-pasting between screens, and the owner concludes AI is not for a business their size. It usually was — the sequence was just wrong.

Connect the data first. Then let AI do the work that was impossible before.

What you actually get

Working systems your team uses on Monday morning.

Data Landscape Audit
A written map of every tool you run, what data sits where, what is duplicated, and which decisions you currently cannot make because the numbers live in four places.
AI Opportunity Ranking
Every candidate use case scored on effort against rupees saved or earned. The bottom half gets cut. You only build the top of the list.
WhatsApp and Customer Ops
Most Indian customer conversation happens on WhatsApp. Enquiry capture, routing, follow-up reminders and reply drafting get automated where volume justifies it.
Document and Invoice Handling
Purchase orders, invoices, delivery challans and quotations read automatically and pushed into your accounting stack instead of being typed in twice.
Reporting That Runs Itself
The weekly numbers your accountant or ops head assembles by hand, generated on schedule and delivered without anyone chasing.
Ongoing Management
Tools change, GST rules change, your team changes. Someone has to keep the connections alive. That is the part most consultants skip.

How is AI consulting different from an AI agency?

An agency sells you a build. A consultant is accountable for whether it still works next year.

1

Think

Two weeks understanding your business before proposing anything. Which decisions are slow? Where does work get re-done? What does an hour of your team cost?

2

Plan

The smallest intervention that produces a visible result inside a month. If a rule or a spreadsheet formula solves it, we say so rather than selling AI.

3

Change

Build, connect, test with real data, train the people who will use it daily. Adoption is measured, not assumed.

4

Repeat

Review on a schedule. Expand what worked, kill what did not, and adjust as your volumes and tools shift.

This is the same four-step method described on the about page — it does not change because the technology is called AI.

Is this the right fit for your business?

Worth a conversation if…

You run an established business with real transaction volume, not a pre-revenue idea
Three or more software tools hold your data and none of them talk
Your team retypes the same information into different screens every week
You have been quoted enterprise numbers by a large firm and walked away
You tried an AI tool, it impressed you for a fortnight, and nothing changed

Probably not yet if…

× You want AI because a competitor announced it, with no problem to point at
× Your processes are entirely in people's heads and nothing is recorded
× You need a one-off chatbot and nothing more
× Nobody internally owns the change once it is built

How AI consulting is priced in India

Three models dominate the market. Hourly or daily advisory, where you buy someone's time and own the implementation risk yourself. Fixed-scope projects, where a defined build is quoted upfront. And retainers, where a monthly fee covers both improvement and keeping things running.

Indian pricing spans a wide range. Independent consultants and small specialist firms sit far below the global system integrators, who carry enterprise overheads your business is not benefiting from. The gap is large enough that comparing quotes without comparing scope tells you nothing useful.

Ask any consultant three questions before you sign: what specifically ships, who owns the code and the data afterwards, and what happens in month four when a tool updates and something breaks. Every engagement here is scoped and quoted in writing after the discovery call — details on the consulting page.

Who you would be working with

Manoj Madhavan Pillai, who works as Manoj Madhavan, is a Business Intelligence Architect based in India and the founder of Pillai Infotech LLP. You deal with him directly. There is no account manager between you and the person doing the work, and no junior handed the build once the contract is signed.

Eight years of building software for businesses taught him the same lesson over and over: the tools were never the problem. Nobody had connected them. Read the longer version on the about page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an AI consultant cost in India?

It depends on the engagement model. Advisory work is billed by the hour or day, defined builds are quoted as fixed-scope projects, and ongoing work runs on a monthly retainer. Indian independent consultants price well below global integrators. Always compare scope and post-launch support, not headline numbers.

What does an AI consultant actually do?

The work is mostly diagnosis and integration, not model building. A consultant maps where your data lives, identifies which decisions or manual tasks are costing you the most, chooses the smallest AI or automation change that fixes them, builds and connects it into your existing tools, then trains your team and measures whether adoption actually happened.

Do I need an AI consultant or an AI developer?

A developer builds what you specify. A consultant works out what should be specified. If you already know exactly which system to build and how it fits your operations, hire a developer. If you are unsure where AI would pay for itself in your business, consulting comes first, and development follows the decision.

How long does an AI implementation take?

A single focused change, such as automating one document flow or one reporting cycle, typically ships within four to six weeks including testing and training. Broader work spanning several connected systems runs longer and is best delivered in stages, so you see a working result early rather than waiting months.

Is AI worth it for a small business in India?

Only when there is repetitive volume to remove or a decision being made blind. If your team retypes data daily, chases WhatsApp enquiries manually, or assembles reports by hand, the payback is usually quick. If volumes are low and processes are undocumented, fix the process first and revisit AI afterwards.
